The Comeback Kid: Stanley Wins Phoenix Open after Massive Collapse at Torrey Pines

Last Week

Kyle Stanley had a 5-shot lead going into the final round at Torrey Pines last Sunday and, at one point, led by 7.  He struggled on the back nine and fell to a 4-shot lead going into the 18th hole.  He laid up his second shot (which anyone would have done) and dropped his third shot into the drink.   His 4th shot hit the green but 3-putted, resulting in a play off with Brandt Snedeker, who went on to win the tournament.

This Week

And what a difference a week makes, huh?  Stanley gains from Spencer Levin’s colossal collapse, coming back from an 8-shot deficit to win the Phoenix Open.  Stanley closed with a bogey-free 6-under 65  to finish at 15-under 269. He earned $1,098,000 for his first PGA Tour title. Click here for video of Stanley talking to ESPN’s Michael Collins after his victory.
