Mahan Outplays McIlroy, Wins Accenture Match Play

If you’re going to make 35 birdies in 95 holes, this was the time to do it.  Mahan won 6 rounds in a row to claim the title at Accenture Match Play this weekend in Arizona.

Mahan took on Rory McIlroy in yesterday’s round and he knew going into the day that he’d have to play at the top of his game to beat McIlroy, who was vying for the top spot in the world rankings.

Both players struggled in the first half of the match; Rory made a charge on the back nine, but with Mahan obviously at the top of his game, McIlroy just couldn’t catch up, decreasing the lead by only one stroke.

Yesterday’s win makes Mahan the first American to win the tournament since Tiger Woods in 2008.   Mahan is rocking it out right now and we predict he could have a career year this year.

Definitely thought Rory would win yesterday. Mahan is playing great golf right now!
